Brute Force

Brute Force was developed over the course of six weeks in a four-man team. As with the other games developed for the MSc course, I concentrated on the graphics and 3D modelling. Gary Dowling produced the majority of the code, as well as a drag & drop map-building tool.

The game is a turn-based stragegy in the vein of Laser Squad and the X-Com games. The player controls a squad of police officers in a bleak futuristic urban setting. The city in which the game takes place is populated by the standard fantasy races: Human, Elf, Dwarf and Orc. However, as in real life, a character's race does not necessarily indicate their allegiance, and Orcs serve in the ranks of the police force just as Elves can be found rioting in the streets.

We produced a very rough prototype of the game, showcasing a basic form of the combat system, in which the player-controlled police squad must protect the civilians from the rioters

Due to the very short development cycle, we were forced to leave some of the most interesting features confined to the design document. Planned features included:
